I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. They use a USB receiver that plugs into my computer. I've had them maybe two years and the battery life seems to be really good. The keyboard has play, pause and volume controls. It also has a CD eject button but it doesn't seem to do anything. The mouse has the fast/slow scroll and back/forward side buttons which I really like.
The only thing I don't like about this set is the mouse tends to stop working but if I move it closer to the receiver it starts working. Not sure why.
Also the keyboard has a power button but it doesn't do anything. One of my old keyboards had a power button as well, but it just shut down the computer. I've never seen a Windows machine that would do a hard start from the keyboard button. My old Mac Performas did though. With my Performa all in one the only way to start it was with the keyboard button. The was a switch on the back but it only turned on/off the main power. We always turned it off because sometimes my cat would jump on the desk and step on the keys and the computer would start. I remember one time I woke up and it was on because of that. lol My other Mac that wasn't an all in one didn't have a main power on/off it just had a button on the back to start it like the keyboard had.
Anyway, the reason I got a wireless set is I have a keyboard drawer and the cables were too short to reach the computer so often they would short out.

For our main Dell computer downstairs, we have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. For my Apple MacBook Air and Apple MacBook Pro, I have the Apple Wireless Bluetooth Magic Mouse that I use when I'm set up at a desk.

Most of my computers use the standard Dell mouse and keyboard that they originally shipped with, though I am slowly changing out the keyboards to mechanical ones.. All wired, I can't stand wireless mice or keyboards..

My keyboard seems to work well, but the mouse cuts out sometimes for some reason. I had a wireless Logitech mouse before that was very basic and it never did that.
I like the wireless ones just because I can move them wherever I like. My desk is a hutch with a keyboard drawer and the tower sits on the floor so cables would have to be really long to reach through the wiring openings in the back of the hutch.
Some of my friends had those mechanical keyboards. They are nice, reminds me of the old keyboards from the 1980s. I had one of the first Macintosh keyboards, very mechanical sounding. It used a telephone handset type jack and coiled cable to plug into the computer. The mouse used a serial type connector.

The cutting out is the main reason I don't like wireless.. The only wireless keyboard I have is a BlueTooth one for my iPad, and it seems to work well enough most of the time.. For a while I had a wireless mouse (also BlueTooth) for my Apple computer, but it operated so unreliably that I exchanged it for a plain old wired mouse.. Much happier with it, even though it's less convenient at times..
The only place I really wish I had a wireless mouse and keyboard is in my shop.. I have a monitor on my desk next to the computer, and I also have the computer connected to my 'television set', so I can watch videos from the more comfortable chair away from my desk.. It would be nice to be able to take the mouse and keyboard over to the chair and navigate through YouTube from there.. Even though wireless mice/keyboards have come down a lot in cost, I'll probably end up getting a long UBS extension cable, so I can make use of the extra mice and keyboards I already have that are just sitting in the closet..
They do have a nice sound, some remind me of a typewriter.. I know which Apple computer you're talking about, those are starting to get pretty valuable as collectible items..

Yeah, I used to have a Mac Plus, cute little computer. There was an issue with it where it would turn itself on and off over and over. So I gave it away.
A wireless keyboard would work well for your shop chair. Another case where it would work nicely is with a Wii, just plug into the USB port on the back and browse from the couch or wherever. Although I always used a wired keyboard with mine and just sat near it when I needed to type. Not sure if a mouse could be used with a Wii though but I just used the remote for clicking.
