That’s right. I’ve decided to scrap most of the fans in my collection. Everything except Casablancas, Originals, NIB fans, and a spinner motor fan or two with good bearings will be trashed. It would cost about $70 per fan just to get them into usable condition, and I don’t want to spend that much.
I might convert some of the spinner motor fans into frankenfans by putting all their parts onto new motors, but the majority of my collection will either be thrown out or scrapped.
All my Originals work fine, and all Casablancas will get new XLP-2000 motors.
I’m sick of my bad bearing curse. Turns out modern fans truly are better quality than vintage fans.

So does this mean you'll even trash Ding Liang top mount?
Maybe you can just give fans or parts for free or low price to other collectors who know how to replace bearings.

So does this mean you'll even trash Ding Liang top mount? Maybe you can just give fans or parts for free or low price to other collectors who know how to replace bearings. Ironically I was actually planning on keeping that one even though it has the loudest bearings of any fan in my collection. I’m keeping it for the rarity since I’ve never seen another one like it and probably never will. I might even be willing to spend the money to replace the bearings in the future. But another issue is half of my collection has since rusted since I stored them in a place I didn’t know wasn’t weatherproof. Not to mention my parents used that room as a storage and piled so many boxes in front of the cabinet the motors were in that for over a year I couldn’t reach them to get them out. They were trapped in there. The 36” SMC Laguna I had a video of on my old channel is now completely rusted and will sadly have to be thrown out. Same for the JCPenney Alaska-looking fan from my sister’s old bedroom and a bunch of other fans. The only Casablanca I lost to the rust was my antique brass Zephyr but with a fresh paint job and a brand new XLP-2000 motor and electronics that one can be saved. All my Originals are fine because they were stored elsewhere. But the top mount fan with the Ding Liang stickers on the blades wasn’t stored down there so it didn’t rust.

I still have that video because I downloaded along with most others, over a year before you closed your account.

I might be interested in some of it.

I wouldnt support doing this, my fans are most likely in much worse condition that what i am assuming here, try selling them on ebay, craigslist or anywhere for a cheap price and u will get someone interested in buying them!
I have much much more fans that are rusted, with terrible bearings, badly bent blades and so on.. my main aim with those fans is to restore them to mint collection, maybe u can start restoring the ones u like the most.. scrapping them will make it harder for future collectors to find the fan they want especially if they r discontinued
I always keep this phrase in mind: one person's trash is another person's treasure

Pictures probably would answer the condition as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If they are rusted I doubt anyone other than non collectors will buy them and if they are sellable whose going to buy a really rusty fan unrestored other than for like a garage or shed and how much can you sell that for?

Ceiling fans aren't easy to store, especially someone like me who has waaay tooo many for the space I have available.. Climate controlled or not, if you have them stored and stacked on top of each other and nothing in between them or packed in boxes they will dig into each others' finishes.. I've done that before.. Long ago I just stacked a mountain of fans on top one another and the whole pile a few years later became a pile of junk.. Even use to pack them in cheap plastic boxes I use to take behind Eckerd pharmacy when they were around.. Boxes started breaking and the fans got all scratched and bent.. I've learned when I still go out fan hunting to walk away most things that I either already have of, or don't want bad enough.. I'm only looking for rare stuff not the common Hunter Original, Fasco Charlestons, 1895 series, CG High Breezes to name a few.. I know some hate it, but they aren't the ones paying my bills and don't have time nor space to buy to ship to make very little or no profit on it..

I’m sick of my bad bearing curse. Turns out modern fans truly are better quality than vintage fans.? I'm just as tired of the bearings deal as you are, but all my noisy, grinding vintage fans are far superior quality than anything you can buy now..

That's part of the reason I don't really collect ceiling fans. I only have two that aren't installed, they aren't as easy to store as portables, too many parts to store and keep from scratching/rusting.

All right, I’ll keep them or sell them. But to be honest I’m not really into collecting fans anymore. I have other hobbies I’m more focused on and I’m gonna need to save up to move out on my own soon anyway. I don’t want to spend a ton of money on these fans getting them fixed.
I promise this isn’t a joke- it’s a serious question: would be interested in buying rusted or noisy fans? I’d gladly sell them if anyone wants to restore them.
