A long time ago, I had made of thread about my first portable fans in 2007 or 2008 but I can't find this thread anymore. I had this Super desk fan since June 1997. In my memory 1997 is also the last year they used the old all black logo. It was purchased new at Canadian Tire. This year it's turning 20 years old. It still works very well. It was the only portable fan in my collection that I haven't made a video of yet. I cleaned it up well and finally made one for it's 20th anniversary. The fan can be completely dismantled easily, even the back of the motor. I opened it to removed the dust that was inside it and I shown the motor in the video. It originally came in a flat box and had to be assembled from a to z. Before 2005 I didn't have air conditioning so this fan have been a lifesaver in the summer. Enjoy and comment! Here's a photo of it I took back in the summer of 2007 when it was ten years old. www.vintageceilingfans.com/membergalleries/gallery/showimage.php?i=928&c=232

I like it, two decades and still going strong. My Holmes Tropicool will be turning 20 as well this September.

It feels special and show how fast time passes when fans purchased in our lifetime are already two decades old.

It does, however I didn't buy the Holmes Tropicool, my mom did. She actually purchased it from Hill's in 1998 when I was 1.

I'm updating this thread because I have a little bit more information about this fan. When I created this thread two years ago to celebrate it's 20th anniversary, it meant celebrating 20 years in my possession and not celebrating when it was made. It seems according to the sticker inside of the motor that we can see at 3:04 in my video above, this fan would have been made in 1994 but it wasn't purchased until June 1997 so when I filmed this video and posted this thread this fan didn't have 23 years of use but 20. It was to celebrate it's 20th anniversary in my possession but not since when it was made because it wasn't being used until June 1997 even though it was made in 1994.

Yes very interesting and I also learned that apparently there were versions of Super fans in the 1990's that were still using the old black Super logo but started having slightly more spaced out grills. This would be the Supers made in 1996 and 1997 as I recall 1997 being the last year for the older logo. I previously remembered that the slightly more spaced grills came out at the same time as the newer logo in 1998. It makes sense that my fan would have been made in 1994 considered it has the tight heavy grills. It's impressive how some fans can stay on the shelves of a store or stored away in a warehouse for a while. My Seabreeze Cool-Sweep that I bought in June 2018 was actually manufactured in 2015 and my Cinni Burma ceiling fan bought in April 2017 was made in October of 2003.

It must be pretty common, especially for less common fans. I bought a WindStream desk fan in September, 2016 and it wasn't until I took a closer look I realized it was made in 2012. I also bought an HD Supply branded landmark in antique brass around May 2017 and it is also from 2012.

I'm surprised to see it still going after so much use, the 16" SMC versions we have in the US were not very reputable in terms of longevity.. They seem to use the same motors as the 12" but have a larger capacitor..

They seem to use the same motors as the 12" but have a larger capacitor.. It still works as good as when it was new and has a good spin down time. Sometimes 40 cm desk fan developp problems with the oscillation because their heads are so heavy and they can struggle a little when oscillating on low speed but this one dosen't have any of these problems.
