Is anyone interested in streetlights? Here are some sightings I've had in my area that are unique
These I call hatted fixtures, I've also heard some people call them spy vs spy fixtures, these were in the parking lot of a 70s era bank. These are pretty common here, there are two in my neighborhood, and one subdivision here has lots of them. I am guessing these are blue mercury vapor, but I haven't seen many of them turned on. The high school parking lot here has a variation of these that is square shaped and it is huge. I should try to get a picture of it.
The streets downtown have these acorn shaped fixtures, some of them are yellowed and have a black decoration on top of the globe. I heard on TV one time that these posts were the original ones, found in the dump and restored, but I tend to think they are probably reproductions, not sure. These use orange sodium vapor bulbs.
These pole mounted fixtures have been popping up downtown as well. They do have a nice vintage look to them. Orange sodium vapor bulbs.
Then finally, these pole mounted fixtures, typically installed as yard lights. These seem to be really rare, I can only think of two I've seen of this style. Not sure if this one still works or is used, but when I last saw it working, it was blue mercury vapor. That was 15 years ago though. Clearly they seem to be power company provided yard lights I'm guessing, and perhaps just an earlier design of the more recent sodium vapor ones. But I like how these look compared to the more common ones. This wasn't a great picture, but it was a quick drive by one so I guess it turned out ok. I didn't want to be suspicious as it's in someone's yard. The other one of these I know of is over an old abandoned shed on the side of the road, maybe I'll pull over one day and snap a picture.
