I have a Casablanca Four Seasons CD-4444 ceiling fan that has a pullchain that turns the fan on or off, that's it. The serial number is GP-5466 which I think means it is from 1982. Are these fans supposed to be single speed, or is something broken? It's a really nice-looking fan; is it possible (or affordable) to repair it or upgrade it to a 3-speed?
Thanks for any help,
Iris

It has the variable speed control system that has a PC board, it's very common for them to fail, which results in only fast speed operation... There are many ways to go around it.. Most easiest is just to hook it up to a wall control.. Alot of collectors just convert it to 3 speed, which you would need skill to do.. If it were in my collection, I would replace the components on the PC board seeing how I like things original..

Thanks Adam! I'm actually powering it with a swag kit plugging into the wall; so is there still a way to run the cord through some sort of control box? Or are there any sites showing how to convert this to 3-speed? I don't think Casablanca sells any replacement parts for such an old fan. :-(

Someone on here may be able to help you convert if you know anything about electrical.. I've never done it.. Any fan speed control should work, as long it's for fan speeds and not a light dimmer..

I just wired in a wall control switch and it works great. Thanks!
However, when I set the speed control for either L or M speeds, I can now *further* change the speed using the knob control on the side of the fan, opposite the switch. This knob did NOT do anything when I just wired the black wire directly to the power cord. Any idea why it wants to start working when the power is coming to it through the speed control switch?
Not complaining but just curious about this.

I'm not sure, it could be numerous of things.. I got two Casablanca fans in the mail last year and both the variable speed knobs weren't working, comes to find out all that was wrong is the PC board had cracked solder joints.. That may be the case with yours.. If you're good at soldering, You should pull the board and reflow solder on all the bottom of the connectors, and even check the rest of the solder joints... Just remember the set of pins each connector goes into, you sure don't want to connect it wrong.. Reference photos are always good to take before you disconnect anything...

I have a three speed board that will replace your existing components. $40 plus I want your board and transistor/heatsink and potentiometer.
