Interesting. The thing with homes (or apartments, rather) under the $300,000 in Vancouver is that 80% plus of the fans you'll find will be low-end Canarms and Heritages models. Once you go above that, you'll start seeing more from showroom brands such as Kendal Lighting. Though these might be newer, they're still a notable step up from some cheapo $29.99 Canadian Tire specials. I think the theory here is anyone with a more expensive house probably has the money, and the desire, to have up to date fans and their biggest concern is what they look like, not how they perform.. they presumably have an air conditioner and don't even use the fan.. Those that live in the less expensive houses are satisfied with their ceiling fan if it moves air, regardless of what style it is or what era it came from.

In areas that require air conditioning, ceiling fans are often seen as a bonus instead of a primary source of cooling. Here in the Vancouver area, air conditioning generally isn't used, even in higher-end properties. The selection of fans also depends on the neighborhood. East Vancouver (which is often looked upon as "the ghetto" of Vancouver) has a lot of cheap crap that was installed to replace older fans in a poor attempt to "update" the space. West Vancouver is where the money is at, so there you'll find an assortment of higher-end brands. The suburbs (Delta, Surrey, Langley, Richmond) are where the mid to upper mid-range fans are (Hampton Bay, Kendal Lighting and a few Canarms).
