Just finished installing the Copper Casablanca Zephyr from 1981 that I got in trade in the kitchen. Replaced my 2013 42" hunter original which is now on my porch. I would not have put the hunter original on the porch, unless you want it destroyed from the weather. It is not UL/ETL rated for any kind of weather. If I were you, I would most definitely get something like a Casablanca outdoor Panama (XLP2000) or quite possibly a utopian, depending on the size of your space. Could you post some pictures of your front porch, that would be great!

People have been putting hunter originals out on porches for years, yes, in 20 years it will need some refurbishment but that's the course..... I have a 1970s original that was on a porch for many years and it just needs a paint job and refinished blades. No blade splits, drooping or sagging. The porch is deep and shielded from the weather by wide columns and a fairly deep lip. I live 50 miles inland.

Both installs look really nice, especially that Original on the porch!
Given those are oil filled, (assuming you have a cold season) how do they fare though the winter? Does the oil need to be refreshed after?

I absolutely love that 42" Hunter Original! This is definitely the case. Hunter Originals are nearly indestructible. Unless the fan is being rained on continuously, an indoor-rated model could actually last a decent amount of time installed outdoors. When I was in Key West, there were Hunter Originals installed inside and outside of nearly every café. A number of them happened to be covered in rust, yet were still running strong.

Posted this on facebook a while ago, this is my antique copper Casablanca Zephyr, found at a Habitat. I have somewhat fixed the bent blades since these photos were taken. It has a 1.5 amp K63 motor with a 6uf capacitor. Reversable with stencil blades. Date of manufacture is 1980. antique copper casablanca 001 by perfectjazz78, on Flickr antique copper casablanca 003 by perfectjazz78, on Flickr antique copper casablanca 004 by perfectjazz78, on Flickr antique copper casablanca 005 by perfectjazz78, on Flickr antique copper casablanca 006 by perfectjazz78, on Flickr antique copper casablanca 008 by perfectjazz78, on Flickr antique copper casablanca 007 by perfectjazz78, on Flickr antique copper casablanca 007 by perfectjazz78, on Flickr <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oNGmljAvUZQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
