Was something wrong with the original finish or did you just feel like stripping them?

Was something wrong with the original finish or did you just feel like stripping them? I would never, ever, ever, strip, paint, or refinish a vintage fan unless the original finish was beyond salvageable. Note the "before" picture. I got these thinking they were brown, I have ALWAYS wanted a (factory) brown one. Turns out they were originally white, then spray painted brown, then black, then brown again. Reaaly bad spray jobs plus they were in overall crappy shape. I was originally going to redo them in a close-to-factory brown, and I still may.

I love it beyond words! I'm thinking of doing something very similar with my Casablanca Ventura.

Casablancas are steel and cast zinc. It wont be quite as shiny, and you're better off making a new sideband.

I usually don't like stripping the original finish either.. If it's in bad shape I will.. Also if it's bad in a certain area of a fan, I'll strip off the paint in that area, and repaint if I can find a color that matches the original paint close enough.. Usually with spinners I'll touch of the bottom seeing how alot of the dark brown or white ones usually have scrape marks on the bottoms..

I do the same thing. Sometimes I wont even strip the bottom, I'll just "dust" it with fresh paint. Basically, mist it until it looks ok.

I was hoping to go for a brushed nickel look, so it doesn't necessarily have to be ultra shiny. Plus, I was planning to use a clear-coat to preserve the finish. Making a new sideband probably would be a good idea.

The shiny blades look very cool, especially with the right lighting!
