As some of you may know, I volunteer at the Habitat ReStore. I get a large variety of ceiling fans from the ReStore, so I thought why not share with the VCF community! So that's what I'm doing. For those who don't know, what I do the ReStore pick up fans and clean them, test them and bring them back. I also make videos of quite a few of these fans, so do expect a multi-media thread 7/28/2014 Fan one - 52" Kendal Lighting Contractor in pewter. Albeit a lower-end model, it actually isn't that bad for a builder fan. I believe it was previously installed in a kitchen because it has a noticeable amount or grease on the blades. Yes, I'm going to flip the blades around to maple. Fan: Label: It came in the box of this Kendal Lighting Ventura II in oil rubbed bronze: Fan two - 42" Hampton Bay Middleton in brushed nickel. Yes, I know it's a cheap fan. The Middleton was literally just introduced here in Canada though, so I thought what the heck. The note on the box just about sums up the quality control (or lack thereof on the Middleton). I'd say it's probably worse than the Littleton. Box: Note: Fan three - 36" Wilcorp spinner in brown. I'm definitely saving the best for last here. Surprisingly, it's actually brand new! The blades are still wrapped in cardboard and the fan is in nearly mint condition besides a few minor scratches and some dust. Fan itself: Labels:

Kendal Contractors fans are actually pretty good.
Very cool that you found an unused SMC Wilcorp. Does it have a date on it?

Is that a variable speed knob on the bottom of the switch housing of the spinner?

Kendal Contractors fans are actually pretty good. I wouldn't say pretty good, however they're certainly better than most current Hunter's. Very cool that you found an unused SMC Wilcorp. Does it have a date on it? I looked on all the labels and couldn't find any trace. I might try checking the capacitor or inside of the lower canopy, as they were usually dated in earlier spinner fans like this. Thanks Dan That thing looks like an SMC of sorts.. I highly doubt the fan has anything to do with SMC. The wiring certainly doesn't look SMC and nor do the blades.

Those blades are SMC's blades. I've seen them before.
Ah Wilcorp. Yes, I thought that it could not be Wincorp. It's it definitely an early SMC. This one has four blades? Three blade versions have also existed.
It has many wires like reversible Canarms have? Some SMC's had something like that at some point.

I thought Wilcorp was an SMC relabel? Wilcorp is a huge ceiling fan showroom located in Toronto. It's the one I visited in 2009 and posted pictures of. I bought my 4-speed Casablanca Panama from them. They carry Kendal, Casablanca, Hunter, Fanimation, Monte Carlo, Emerson and a few Canarm fans. Apparently they also carry Marley and Kichler now. Before carrying brands like these, they starting as an importer of fans. The first fans they imported were from SMC. They put their name on it as the importer but usually they also have the SMC label on them. Today you won't see a ceiling fan with the name Wilcorp on it. It will be those brand I mentioned above. www.wilcorp.com/

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been on here for the past week. I've been busy with cleaning the garage ( finally complete by the way) which gets really time consuming. Anyways, I'm actually going to split this post into two parts because I'll be going to Habitat tomorrow to bring a fan and take pictures of what's currently on the lighting display. This part will be some of the main highlights of Habitat in the last two weeks (one of which Dan is going to go crazy over), and he next part will pretty much fill any pictures gaps there are in this post. Update one - Hampton Bay Middleton video. This pretty much speaks for itself: Picture of the fan at Habitat: Update two - so probably all of you guys know about my testing mount right? Well, it recently broke so I can no longer safely test fans on there. I plan to install a fan-rated electrical box on the ceiling and run Romex to power it. Update three - Banvil/Envirofan Gold Line's - For the past two months or so, a Loblaws grocery store has been slowly renovating which has involved changing around aisles and having to remove a few of their fans (Banvil/Envirofan Gold Line's). In turn, these fans ended up at Habitat. I first became aware of them about two weeks ago as we were pulling out of the parking lot and out of the corner of my eye, I saw what looked like a bunch of downrods on a pallet. So I took a second look and was astonished to find they were in fact eight Banvil/Envirofan Gold Line's! I was confused as to why they were sitting on a pallet (since late 2011, I've been known as the guy who cleans up and fixes ceiling fans, regardless if they have MDF blades or metal blades), so I took as many as I could carry at the time (one in each hand) and put them in the employees only area at the back. We came back the day after, and they were in the parking lot again. So I did some asking around, and found out that (A) they came from Loblaws and (B) they weren't supposed to be crammed on some pallet in the parking lot. After talking with the employees at the front desk the about fans, they said that they would really like to sell these and they'd let the guys at the back know to move the fans from the front. So I come back the next day and was overjoyed that they were no longer sitting in some randomly placed pile in the parking lot! So I took two home. Here are some pictures of the fans prior to cleaning (more pictures of them after cleaning and on display coming tomorrow): Motor: Blades - yes, they were actually planning to "sell" all of these fans like this! So last Saturday, I went to pick up some more of the Gold Line's, but they were nowhere to be found. So I asked a fellow volunteer where they were, and apparently "They got scrapped because they didn't know they were for sale". That's pretty much like saying "See these $100.00 bills? Well, they'd look mighty good in the trash!". What I'm wondering though is how on Earth would they not know they're for sale if they were already told to keep them for me? When I told the employees at the front desk...well, let's just say they were less than pleased! Oh well, it's not like they can be un-scrapped 8/13/2014 Update four - I went to Habitat this Wednesday and picked up a couple of fans. The first was this CEI-made Kenmore. It's a nice looking fan (minus the oak blades), but it's very cheap. Here are some pictures of the fan itself and cleaning it: Light kit: Wiring inside the switch housing: Gigantic 153X12 motor! The fan was pretty dusty...but not for long: The next fan was this 52" Hunter Augusta II in white. The previous owners were quite generous, as they not only included light bulbs, but the original instructions as well. I actually didn't end up taking too many pictures of this one, for now, but I will be sure to take some more when I got to Habitat tomorrow: Anyone notice a slight difference between the size of the motor as compared to the Kenmore? Do be looking forward to more pictures tomorrow.

8/16/2014 So I went to Habitat today and got some pictures. I actually couldn't get pictures of every fan (some sold), but I got as many as I could. Hunter Silent Breeze III: Hampton Bay Windward IV: Banvil/Evriofan Gold Line and a gray Sears/SMC DC42: Labels I made for the Gold Line: Overall view of the display: I also picked up this Hunter Highbury. I have no idea what the story is here; it looks like it's been briefly installed and then taken down. It didn't come with a mounting bracket, but I have one that fits. Fan itself: Dust Armor: Just look at that CFM rating! Instructions and warranty card: Very worn-out screw! Some random crap that just happened to be in the box as well:
