Yesterday one of my two Emerson ToC's (4 speed, KB55) started randomly quitting while it was running, and then it would not turn back on until after it had come to a complete stop. I toggled the reverse switch a couple of times and it ran fine for a while until I woke up about 5 this morning and noticed that it wasn't running (it was, however, producing a faint hum). I turned it off at the wall and then it would only come on every few flips of the switch. I swapped the capacitor and it didn't help things at all. So I pulled it down and in its place is my antique brass Adapt-Air Original.
Any clue as to what might cause the fan to do this? Anyone else had experiences with fans quitting randomly?

The Hunter in my family room did that... Being replaced with an emerson crown.
