I have a Homestead whisper fan HP-40. The blades recently started rubbing the fan rheostat, apparently the flywheel has dropped down to allow this to happen. The motor turns freely and there doesn't seem to be a bearing problem.
any ideas on what might have happened and whether this is repairable?
thanks for any advice someone can give me.

Thanks! Maybe the set screw loosened slightly. I'll check that first.

Yes.. the set screw does tend to come loose from time to time, causing the flywheel to slip and come in contact with the switch housing.
