Found it at the Delray Habitat.. Has a bad pot switch as there is a rough spot and can get no speeds out of it.. It turns off the fan in alot of spots.. Looks like someone replaced the blades with newer ones.. Luckily the original blades are with it.. I can tell the on/off pull switch was replaced at one time, and screwed back the switch cup with huge screws that don't fit.. I've already added photos to the Casablanca Gallery in place of the old ones.. How can we tell the dates on these by the serial numbers? I think I'll pass on a video seeing how there are no speeds..

Hm.. it almost looks like the new blades are a legitimate Casablanca set.

Nice, too bad the speeds are out. The new blades do look legitimate, aside from that sticker which I don't remember ever seeing on Casa blades before.

I tried to fix the Potentiometer and the windings are damaged.. Potentiometer switch is needed.. Seeing how Casablanca doesn't sell them anymore, has anyone bought one from a good source rated with the correct ohms and wattage for the correct scaling speeds?

I see you found Casa doesn't sell them anymore. If it were me, I'd just go three speed and be done. Some people are purists, but it's always a matter of time until something else goes out.

I like my fans exactly original.. I don't like converting or modifying something that originally wasn't. From what I looked up the pots for the slumber quite are rated at 25k.. I just bought these on ebay.. www.ebay.com/itm/221291684307?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649From what I understand with alot of the slumber quite Casablanca fans, the big resistor is what usually the problem, the value in those drifts, which doesn't take in effect supplying less power to the motor.. And those resistors can easily be replaced.. I was able to get the fan to slow down (barley noticeable) with that pot switch, by pressing hard and turning very slow.. There was alot of dead spots, and half the range was dead.. I could possibly have two problems going on.. I will find out once my pot switches arrive..

I would still consider it an original fan if you convert it to three speed. It's like a factory recall.

I would still consider it an original fan if you convert it to three speed. It's like a factory recall. This is how I view it. As great as SQ is, I don't want to continually invest my time in failing electronics regardless of how much I like them or want to keep it original. I'd rather have a functional fan than a constant project fan. That aside, I hope you're able to get it working, Adam, I do respect what you're willing to put into it.

There are different types of resistors and the materials they are made out of, if you go with something cheap, I wouldn't expect it to last. Those carbon resistors from Radio Shack are garbage.. Can also experiment with different wattage resistors, if it gets too hot, you're gonna burn up the new resistor and possibly other components on the board, I'm sure it can't be that hard to to repair and make dependable once the exact parts are known to work.. If for some reason it is impossible to fix, Id go with a regular cardboard box one before converting to three speed.. I just don't believe in altering something different than originally made.. I guess my view is a bit different.. Has anyone ever tried a Ceramic Resistor?

Adam, we've tried pretty much EVERYTHING before.
It's simply not a well designed circuit.
Cardboard boxes make these fans noisy.

I found a few pot switches lying around.. A 5k, 10k, and a 50k. The 10k gives the best results it gives a very slow speed.. The 50k started smoking.. They are rated at 1/2 watt, and get VERY hot when running on low for a while.. Shafts are too long and fully round, and they would not last very long even if they did fit being rated at half a watt.. I'd need something probably around 5 watts.. I may have wasted $7 on those 25k pots.. It seems everything is fine as far as the PC board.. Here are the results with the wired up pot switches..

Been there, done that, tried that.
It's supposed to be 5k. If 10k doesnt stall then it should work fine. You will want at least 1 watt, the higher the better.
You can always cut the shaft to be the correct size and shape.

10k doesn't stall it, anything above will.. I've got a couple of 5 watt 10k pots already on the way from digi-key..
