First off, here's guess what's on sale at Walmart! Congratulations, you've found the biggest POS Heritage (and probably the most common) on the market. I seriously hope your excitement is sarcastic. JcPenny sold Casablanca's? They used to sell Emersons etc. too way back in the day when they actually sold fans IN THE STORE. That looks like a newer Casa however and I only remember seeing Broan-type stuff in there from the early 90s on. The fans from the catalog. What year? Doesn't really matter, they're ALL Hampton Bay and that pretty much means they're ALL crap. But my guess is early 2000's on all of them except MAYBE that hugger.

No, I'm definitely sure it's from the late 90's. I have the 2000 catalog and on up to present day. Oh, and yes, it's sarcasm...

Your catalogue is pre-1999, that's for sure.

Your catalogue is pre-1999, that's for sure. It's 97 or 98. The layout and the colors look EXACTLY like my 96, but I am fairly sure that the Patriot was not in my 96 catalog. I would have remembered a remote-control fan. JW: "Congratulations, you've found the biggest POS Heritage (and probably the most common) on the market. I seriously hope your excitement is sarcastic. Doesn't really matter, they're ALL Hampton Bay and that pretty much means they're ALL crap." Hey, man, you don't need to take such a strong tone. I dunno if you hate Ben or something, but I sure get that impression based on how you spoke to him. If it's personal, take it elsewhere, and in any case tone it down please! "But my guess is early 2000's on all of them except MAYBE that hugger." Nope. If you look closely at the Waterton, you'll see that it has the old-style SMC pullchains. You will also see the Hampton Bay decal on the side of the switch housing. Both of those had long been done away with by the early 2000's. Also, the remote control that the Patriot has is too old-school to be early 2000's. Oh, and that brass Casa with the rosewood blades and the light kit, in the JC Penny catalog...does anyone know what model that is? It looks a little bit like the San Marino, except for it not having blade badges. The Palisades also comes to mind?

Nothing against Ben at all. I'm glad the guy's interested in fans, but just frustrated at the rash of people supposedly getting all excited about the new, cheap, horrible fans when we're here to promote use of the older fans instead of these junk models. Of course Ben did say he was being sarcastic but as anyone knows you lose about 99 percent of your expression when you're stuck behind a keyboard.

(<-and also proper punctuation) JW's right, we can't tell a person's tone of voice, a sentence could be interpreted in many ways... Also, to clarify, I don't like that fan at all, after all, what the 12$ price tag say about the quality...

In the 90s, JCPenney sold Casablanca, Hunter, and others in addition to their "store brand" fans. In the 80s they sold Moss, Lasko, Emerson, among others. There's a WONDERFUL thread in the archives called Department Store Fans. I think there's a fight in it too.

A friend of mine saw a plastic crate of fans on the curb in his neighborhood and he was able to claim them and save them aside for me. The fans were a white/pb SMC U42, a PB SMC 'turtle' hugger, and a PB Encon bottom-mount spinner (motor only). The SMCs seem to be 'all there' and this is the 3rd SMC 'turtle' hugger I have, but the first one I have in PB. The Encon motor doesn't look good, though.
