1988 was the last year ceiling fans were marked made in Hong Kong.In N'Djamena there was a grocery store that had 5 TMT's 48'' in sky blue. They were the pretty old models that look just like Con-Tech but they have curved blades and the canopies are some bigger style of cylinder made of hard plastic. Tais have pictures of those in white 56''. Apparently they are from the mid to late 1980s. There also those two pics of old white TMT's in China on Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/shirley77/371561658/www.flickr.com/photos/stefanie_xu/2472974658/Notice the canopies. I've seen those pictures. I like the plastic canopies better. There was a grocery store here in the 1980s that had dozens of what I assume were ConTechs, with the same 3 ring motor. I was too young to remember which canopy they had. They did look slightly different than the current version. I was talking around here that I never saw such Banvil with sticker on the lower canopy. I have seen them with Banvil stickers as well. Some, in the 80s, even said Banvil AND Envirofan stickers-- or had two stickers, one of each. Two types of Gold Line II is already enough. I dont follow what you mean by this comment.

That does not make sens cause the one in my sighting have a more flat motor while the one I have have a super thick motor. The one in my sighting would be more a Silver Line II, also the canopies on it are more modern. But that wouldnt make sense, unless the Silver Lines werent introduced until 1982 (or whenever the Gold Line II came out). And that would mean there were at least 3 versions of the Silver Line during a time period that the Gold Line changed only slightly. Not to mention, the motor looks more similar to that of the Gold Line I. Anyway they all look more to me like some alternated versions of the Gold Line. I never heard that the Silver Line had earlier versions. Apparently they did, because neither of these are Gold Lines.

sort of.. i know they produced many fans very identical to evergo, some of them were under the label ABC, most union fans i've seen were curvy bladed and having an evergo-like motor.. this is my first time seeing one that looks like a banvil and labelled AC i have one ABC industrial manufactured by union ngok kee i142.photobucket.com/albums/r90/black-father/DSC00715.jpgEarly Evergos were made by Union Ngok Kee (dont know if they ever switched factories, the motors did become very different over time). Same with Envirofan. Interestingly, Envirofan claims to be still today using the same factory since 1979. So is Union Ngok Kee still making their fans? Is it called something different now? All the Union/Ngok Kee fans I've seen were labeled "Made in Hong Kong". I'd bet Perrey knows something.

Ah I'm glad you posted that cause I rememberd you had a picture of one too. The second one is the current Silver Line so if the 36'' one I have is the I that would be the III and your first pic would be the II. There's an easy way to figure this out. I need the model and serial numbers off any of these fans.

I have seen them with Banvil stickers as well. Some, in the 80s, even said Banvil AND Envirofan stickers. That's what my Gold Line has, Banvil/Envirofan Extra Heavy Duty Gold Line.

Silver Line I: Silver Line II (I believe): Then what does Jean have? Well like I said, if the 36'' one I got last year is a Silver Line it would be a VERY early model, the earliest possible. It would be too weird if they went to a model with a more flat motor and smaller canopies to after introduce a model with a much thicker motor and genuine Banvil canopies.

The fans in the shop look very nice, and it sounds like they are all pretty good performers.

Model number is: D-36-1 Serial number is: 0055506 It's made in Taiwan and labled Banvil. That doesnt help as much as I'd hoped. Mine all have a year in the serial number-- 79,80,81, etc. Model number doesnt match anything either-- but it's closest to the silver line.

Yeah I know that's how I found out about the dates of 4 Seasons. It really not evident to guess it's a date as it does not say manufactured in... or made on... and does not say any month or anything. If the fan is from 1982 it will only say 82 in a smaller character before the serial number. That's the sticker of the 4 Seasons top mount for example: See the little 82 before the serial number?

Well, the ConTechs, my old Carroway, and a 48" Dayton/Marley I had are all in Iowa ready to be installed.
The Gold Lines are staying. Probably keeping the downrods as is. They cause a little more strobe effect with the lights but it's not really noticable.
Only thing left to figure out is controls. I dont want to go solid state because these fans get left on 24/7, often on low, and I dont want them overheating or stalling out. Currently the two 56" are on Nutone 4 speed wall controls, which are my favorite, but still a bit slow on the medium speeds. The Encon controls were buzzy and too fast on low. The 36" is on the slowest 4 (or 5) speed control I have, and it's still way too fast on all speeds. I got a set of 4 speed controls on eBay I'm going to try those. If they dont do any better, the 56" will stay with the Nutone controls, and the 36" will get the 5 speed wall control it came with.
