I've been told that wiring a 10mfd capacitor in series with the "low" winding tap will give you a proper low speed. You use a three speed pullchain and let that be position 3, low tap without the capacitor is position two, and high is separate.
Or, you can try any wall switch that is rated for the appropriate number of amps. If it is noisy, dont use it. If it stalls out on one of the speeds, dont use it. If it is quiet and runs smoothly it should be fine.

I'm attempting to replace the damaged variable speed control in my Casablanca Panama 5 ceiling fan (circa 1984) Model L2222 with a three-speed chainpull kit (#1520)) provided by Casablanca. The problem is that there are three wires -- Red, Black, and Brown -- on the replacement module that are supposed to attach to the motor wires.
However, there is no red wire coming from the motor. Casablanca service has been no help other than reiterating that "Red goes to red, sir!" I've tried connecting the red wire to each of the blue, green, yellow, pink, tan, and white from the motor but, obviously, nothing happens. Not even smoke or fire. The motor is connected to a wall light switch. There are no lights on the fan unit.
So, what goes? I know it can't be that complicated. I'm almost ready to attempt to rebuild the old module unit and seek a replacement variablel speed control even if Casablanca doen't product them any longer. Something's got to work in its place, right?
Help.
