I was surprised to find that Canarm still makes the Galaxy and Catalyst. Since I like spinners, I was especially interested, I just have a few questions. Are they actually spinners, or is the motor housing just really small? I'm asking because on the Catalyst, there appears to be a gap in the housing where the blades attach. Are they of decent quality? Most importantly, are the pictures up to date? Galaxy: Catalyst:

They look like spinners to me. The "gap" appears to be rubber pieces under the blade arms.

Canarm went down in quality many years ago. Poor air movement, poor general quality, especially for these 2 models I've had a few catalyst over the years at my restore annd they don't move much air and always have a buzzing kind of humming the galaxy and catalyst are for sale at 40 and 50$ (depends on where you live) so this is way too much for a fan like that.
there's no gap between blade holder and motor, it's a thin piece of rubber, acting as an isolation
so again, don't buy that

Yes they are spinners and the pictures are up to date.
They are mostly budget fans so you would not be buying them for the quality.

I realize there really aren't any really good fans to be had for under $100 anymore, but are they actually worse than say the Hampton Bay Littleton, Middleton, or even the Walmart 42" hugger?

Looking at the performances, the catalyst would move 2789CFM with a 153x8 mm motor. Which is very under performance for a 42" fan.
There are no performances for the galaxy, but it has the same motor as the catalyst, with almost the same blade pitch. So I can assume air movement is under 2500CFM

You would buy them because you like how they look, not for their performance. There's nothing to be ashamed of that. They are actually quite a few spinners sold today for about 100$ or less that are very good such as Canarm CP, SMC K series, Sunwindy and Dai To Shi for example. If they have to have wood blades, it's much more difficult to find good spinners for that price that are good quality.

I like the looks of them for sure, but if they're significantly worse than a Walmart hugger at 3x the price, I would just stick to vintage spinners. If they're at least decent, I might be interested.

Yes SMC still make spinners at least their famous K model.

In terms of air movement they are most probably better than a hugger from Wal-Mart. Sadly, even some Wal-Mart huggers blow better air than these low-end Canarm spinners...

I saw the 36" one on eBay not too long ago.. I threw in a real low-ball offer on the auction, they declined.. They wanted around 40 for it, I can't fathom spending more than 15 dollars on one of these things..
