Hey, I'm on a quest, and need some help...
This ceiling fan was made for a year or two in the early 1980's, by Panasonic:
It's a really, REALLY rare fan. I took those pictures as a little kid...we had three of those fans in our house in Florida...but I've never seen one anywhere else, not even in a picture.
They have a lot of sentimental value to me. My mom and dad bought them and put them in when the house was built in 1984, and I was so broken up when they died that I wasn't thinking clearly and left the fans behind in that house. The new tenants promptly threw them out and replaced them with Hampton Bay crap.
I'll tell you as much as I can remember about these fans...
* They're 52"
* They have 3 speeds
* They're non-reversible (unless there was a switch hidden on top of the motor that I never saw)
* They are j-hook fans (non ball-and-socket mounting system)
* The blades are REALLY steeply pitched--it's not an optical illusion in those photos. As a result, the fan motor is designed to go at low RPMs. On high, it goes maybe 70 RPM, but I swear it moves almost as much air as a Hunter Original or a blenderfan. On low, it goes what Dan refers to as "aesthetically slow"--like 25 RPM
* The pullcord you see in the pictures is original to the fan. As far as I know, all Panasonics came with that big tassel thing. But the special thing about this fan is that, like some of the KDK fans (I think), it has NO metal pullchain. It's not like that big orange tassel is attached to a metal chain coming out of the motor. In this fan, the pull chain switch was specially designed, so that the entire cord was cloth. Here's a diagram of what I'm talking about:
So yeah, this to me is like the Tara to Dan...a lost childhood fan which must be re-found. Any information that anyone can dig up would be SO much appreciated!
So far, I have two very vague leads:
Someone said the model number was F5210WH. He said that the WH at the end referred not to the motor finish, but to the blade finish. The blades are off-white, as shown in the pictures. I have no clue what other finish(es) the motor and/or blades came in, if any.
Some digging on Panasonic's website, using the F5210WH model number, revealed that they have one NOS set of blades for this fan (or whatever fan F5210WH is the model number of). They want $199 for the set of four blades.
So any light that anyone can shed on this, in ANY form (pictures, brochures, advertisements, company documents, parts diagrams, owners manuals, memories, etc. etc. etc.) would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Thanks!
